We're always grateful when we can share the WORX Project story with the Western North Carolina and the world.
The WORX Project (a Camp Grier program) is a workforce development and outdoor recreation initiative based in Old Fort, North Carolina, focused on trail building, land stewardship, and career pathways in Western North Carolina. Through hands-on training, paid work opportunities, and community partnerships, WORX equips participants with the skills needed to build and maintain sustainable trail systems while supporting regional economic recovery.
Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, WORX connects people to meaningful work on public lands, including projects in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service and local trail organizations. The program plays a key role in rebuilding and expanding outdoor infrastructure following Hurricane Helene, while also creating access to long-term careers in conservation, recreation, and skilled trades.
Whether you’re a prospective participant, partner organization, or community member, WORX at Camp Grier offers a model for how workforce development, environmental stewardship, and community resilience can work together to shape the future of Western North Carolina.
